This is a very nice mid 19th century "Scatter Gun", fitted with double short 29" barrels, each approximately . 75" in diameter. This would indicate a standard size of 12 bore gauge. The left percussion lock is faintly marked WALTER LOCK & CO. just below the barrel, and the right lock has traces of the same marking. These sort of weapons were the staple all over the United States in pre Civil War days. However, the
